In response to the internet shutdown and censorship , Burma Podcast Network is expanding beyond digital platforms.
At the beginning of 2026, BPN partnered with Federal FM to broadcast one of its most popular programs, Rebel Wisdom Radio, into Karenni areas where internet access remains unstable or unavailable. The 18 to 25 minute weekly show features satire and reflective monologues that challenge oppressive systems and toxic social norms in Myanmar society. It now airs every Monday evening through local radio waves.
This collaboration is more than content distribution. Federal FM is working to expand its transmission reach and strengthen access to trusted information and cultural programming. BPN will also provide training and consultation to support the development of new podcast programs within the Federal FM team.
After the coup, Myanmar military forces seized control of key telecommunications infrastructure and cut nationwide internet access. Since then, shutdowns have continued across many regions. According to data published by Myanmar Internet Project, hundreds of internet disruptions have been recorded over the past five years, with many rural areas still facing limited or no connectivity. This is where radio becomes essential.

Through this collaboration, digital content moves beyond online platforms and reaches listeners through local airwaves. Federal FM is also expanding its broadcast coverage to reach more communities. As part of this effort, BPN will provide training and consultation to strengthen Federal FM’s future podcast and infotainment programming.

Why Podcasts and Insightful Radio Matter More Than Ever in Myanmar
- Curfews, internet shutdowns, and forced conscription have reduced both physical and digital community spaces in Myanmar. People cannot gather freely. Many rural areas cannot access stable internet. Public discussion is shrinking.
- At the same time, social media platforms reward short and light content. Fast videos and quick posts get attention, while deeper and more thoughtful content is often ignored. This makes it difficult for serious creators to continue their work.
- Myanmar needs spaces for real conversation. Dialogue is important in a time of division, fear, and misinformation. Podcasts and radio programs create room for reflection, storytelling, and careful discussion. They help people understand each other across different backgrounds and regions.
- They also give talented youth and professionals a channel to share ideas and inspire others.
